The Chichester International Film Festival, one of the South Coast’s most anticipated cultural events, is set to make its return this summer.
Running from 8 – 24 August, the Festival promises an extraordinary celebration of cinema with an ambitious programme featuring exclusive premieres, iconic film screenings, live events, and much more.
Now in its 33rd year, the Festival will once again open with its popular Open Air Screenings, located amidst the picturesque surroundings of Priory Park in Chichester. Audiences can enjoy three days of iconic films under the stars, including Wicked, Top Gun and Bridget Jones. Families are also invited to attend special afternoon outdoor screenings, offering films for audiences of all ages.
Sunday 10 August at 20:00 – Priory Park – BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (12A)
To close this year’s open air screenings weekend, celebrate the life and music of legendary reggae musician Bob Marley, an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity.
Being a trailblazer, Bob Marley (a compelling Kingsley Ben-Adir) was involved in the development of reggae as a musical genre. Jamaican culture became more popular because of his music, which was not just about sounds, but a way of life. He preached peace, harmony and respect and was not afraid to use his music as a platform for his opinions on politics or religion. He has maintained such popularity over the years that you can find his poster hanging in modern-day student rooms, even though he hasn’t produced any music since 1980. He is a true icon. That being the case, the lead actor had to be perfect. Kingsley Ben-Adir was cast as Bob, after an extensive, year-long and globe-spanning search by the studio, and he shines as the Jamaican legend.
Screenings take place at Chichester’s beautiful Priory Park as part of the prestigious Chichester International Film Festival. Bring a picnic blanket or chair, and a picnic basket filled with your favourite goodies. Drinks and snacks available
