Chichester International Film Festival – Walk The Line (12A)

The Chichester International Film Festival, one of the South Coast’s most anticipated cultural events, is set to make its return this summer.

Running from 8 – 24 August, the Festival promises an extraordinary celebration of cinema with an ambitious programme featuring exclusive premieres, iconic film screenings, live events, and much more.

Now in its 33rd year, the Festival will once again open with its popular Open Air Screenings, located amidst the picturesque surroundings of Priory Park in Chichester. Audiences can enjoy three days of iconic films under the stars, including Wicked, Top Gun and Bridget Jones. Families are also invited to attend special afternoon outdoor screenings, offering films for audiences of all ages.

Friday 8 August at 20:00 – Priory Park – WALK THE LINE (12A)

To launch the 2025 Open Air Screenings of Chichester International Film Festival, enjoy a chronicle of country music legend Johnny Cash’s life, from his early days on an Arkansas cotton farm to his rise to fame with Sun Records in Memphis. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the film, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, who went on to win both the Bafta and Oscar for Best Actress with her performance.

Johnny Cash’s early days as a boy were spent on the family farm, where he struggled under the scorn of his father. He eventually ends up in Memphis, Tennessee, with his wife Vivian, and breaks into the music scene after finding his trademark sound – even recording alongside Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. While on tour, Cash meets the love of his life, singer June Carter (Reese Witherspoon), but Cash’s volatile lifestyle threatens to keep them apart.

Screenings take place at Chichester’s beautiful Priory Park as part of the prestigious Chichester International Film Festival. Bring a picnic blanket or chair, and a picnic basket filled with your favourite goodies. Drinks and snacks available
