Travel back in time at Amberley Museum and explore the South’s working past in a former quarry and limeworks, located in the heart of the South Downs National Park. With over 40 exhibit areas to discover, including a narrow-gauge railway, historic buses, rural crafts and extensive communications displays, there is something for everyone.
Our team of friendly and knowledgeable volunteers are on hand to demonstrate, chat and reminisce.
Amberley Museum is a great place to bring children. We run special activities and trails for children during school half terms and holidays – details can be found in What’s On. Our narrow-gauge railway operates daily and is a firm favourite with children as well as their parents and carers. There is a playground with swings and other equipment next to the Limeburners Café. Don’t forget our nature walks, particularly in Spring and Summer. When you need a break, the Limeburners Café offers a delicious range of freshly made, seasonal recipes covering breakfast, lunch, snacks and treats. For children, we offer mini hot meals and lunch boxes. There are also many areas for picnics around the site.
